The Practice Session is an afternoon of guided performance practice with a two-fold mission. The program is intended for
1) dancers to practice improvisational solo dancing with live music in an Irish traditional music session
2) dancers (or others) who are learning to play instruments at a beginner/intermediate level to practice playing in a session, and playing for dancers
The Practice Session is facilitated by musician Dan Accardi and dancer Kieran Jordan, and is supported by a Fidelity Charitable grant, made possible through the generosity and recommendation of the James K Spriggs Foundation, a donor-advised fund.
This program allows participants to develop their performance skills, both as dancers in a live session, and also as aspiring musicians. Facilitators and students will work through relevant performance questions pertaining to: timing of dances, length of dances, impromptu choreography choices, group vs. solo dancing in a session, appropriate music tempos, arrangements, and tunes, verbal and non-verbal communication between musicians and dancers, “stage” presence in an informal session setting, audience interaction, session etiquette, and more!
Suggested donation $10-$20 or KJD class card
